TELUS: Building A Canadian Brand
TELUS is not just a telecommunication company. It’s one of Canada’s most-loved brands. Earning the countries love didn’t happen overnight. It requires relentless attention to details, consistent highly level of craft with a smattering of charm and surprise. Below is a small snapshot of the work I did over 6 year period.
AGENCY: TAXI Canada, The &Partnership
ROLES: Creative Director, Art Director
We worked with Spy Films to and the talented Miguel Ortega to create the above underwater world.
Art directed numerous photo shoots for both product and critters.
Some campaigns required working with 3D vendors to create objects like the HD, critters like the hummingbird and butterfly.
A campaign would include creative tailored to specific media as shown in the above pre-roll video ad.
Campaign in-store creative would also be custom and would include short videos played on TV screens.
Filming the critters allowed us to create rich and dynamic online ads that would often exceed industry click-through rates.
Simple banner ads that used some of the live action footage we filmed and a little creative freedom around the ad.
Each campaign would also include some type of social component. When we launched Optik, we introduced a new and cuuuuuuute lion cub that we invited our audience to rate and share.
As TELUS continued to launch new services, critters could only tell part of the story. We created the lovable “Danny”, the TELUS installer, who gave the brand a way to engage emotionally with their customers. Over the years there are well over 30 Danny videos. Below are a a select few I worked on.
When filming a Danny TV ad, we’d create unique online video content at the same time.
Danny became a bit too lovable of character over the years as the reaction of the original queen of interior design, Debbie Travis.
The following anthemic TV ad was meant to re-introduce Optik TV to a new audience.
In addition to marketing their products, I was involved with telling the Community Investment side of the company through targeted online videos.
